Waitakere - A case study in relationship building

Introduction

This case study looks at the partnership agreement between Waitakere City Council (WCC) and Sport Waitakere, which is a new type of arrangement between a local body and a Regional Sports Trust.

The agreement contains a shared vision for better Community Outcomes and increased collaboration in delivering these. It sets out a way of working together and has been a key part of the process in strengthening the relationship between the two organisations.

The tone of the agreement reflects that the two organisations have progressed beyond a service delivery relationship.  Each organisation is now more aware of what drives the other, their common goals and their interdependence in delivering Community Outcomes.

The agreement aims to embed a collaborative approach in a way that outlasts existing administration and staff relationships – a basic foundation for lasting co-operation.
