Active Communities Investment Project shines in first year in Upper Hutt - Key learnings
Key learnings
One of the keys to the project’s success so far has been related to availability: “We have been super available to the community – support was there for people when they wanted it” Andrea says.
“Added to that the community was ripe. There was a need, and a lot of willingness, and spirit, she says.
Another factor of the success was the high visibility of our events which built profile and credibility.
Andrea thinks the team involved has also done a good job of learning from other’s experiences. The project adapted Brisbane City Council’s GOLD” (Growing Old Living Dangerously) programme and is also working with an Evaluation Tool from Canada.
“Evaluation is an important aspect to secure further investment and to show council and others just what the point was,” Andrea says.
Another key learning is the value in having a robust plan from the beginning. The Physical Activity Planning process ensured great community engagement.
