Hillary Expedition 2006/2007




SPARC awarded grants to five teams of inspiring adventurers for the SPARC Hillary Expedition 2006/2007.



Rock Solid Progression Project
  • Objective: To free-climb three first ascents on three major rock walls in Fiordland, and to base-jump one of them.

Rock Solid set out in mid January and completed their expedition successfully at the end of February.

Adventure Philosophy
The First Ascent of Beka Brakai Chhok
  • Objective: To make the first ascent of Beka Brakai Chhok (6940 m) and to make a significant ascent in Karakoram. A team of two of New Zealand's leading female mountaineers.
New Zealand Himalaya Alpine-style Expedition
The New Zealand 'Lost Tower' Expedition
  • Objective: To make the first ascent of an unclimbed, unnamed Tower (called 'Cerro Incognito' until a local name is established) in the Aisen Province, Chile.
